Flow isolation in desalination and seawater systems places particular demands on valve materials and configuration. High chloride concentrations, pressure and long-term exposure to corrosive environments all need to be considered when selecting the appropriate valve solution.

EFSVALVES offers the EF40 3-piece ball valve, a compact full-bore platform available in Super Duplex and other corrosion-resistant alloys for demanding process, desalination and water-treatment applications.

Super Duplex for seawater, desalination and reverse osmosis

For applications involving seawater, brine or other chloride-containing fluids, material selection can be as important as pressure rating or valve configuration.

The EF40 is available in Super Duplex ASTM A890 Grade 5A, with PREN above 40, making it particularly relevant for desalination plants, reverse-osmosis systems, seawater service, water treatment and other corrosive industrial applications. Final material selection should always consider the actual fluid composition, temperature, pressure and project requirements.

Class 800 / PN140 and higher-pressure configurations

The standard EF40 configuration is available up to Class 800 / PN140, combining compact 3-piece construction with full-bore flow characteristics. For more demanding project requirements, higher-pressure configurations, including ASME Class 1500, can also be considered according to the service conditions and piping specification.

This makes the EF40 suitable not only as a standard isolation valve, but also as a configurable platform for projects where pressure class, material and connection requirements vary across the installation.

Flexible end connections

The EF40 can be supplied with different end configurations to suit the piping specification:

  • NPT threaded;
  • Socket Weld (SW);
  • Butt Weld (BW);
  • RF flanged configurations on request; and
  • FF flanged configurations on request.

Beyond Super Duplex

Although ASTM A890 Grade 5A Super Duplex is particularly relevant for seawater and desalination applications, the EF40 family can also be considered in other corrosion-resistant materials such as Duplex, AISI 904L, Hastelloy and selected exotic alloys.

This broader material capability allows the same valve concept to be evaluated for chemical, petrochemical and other corrosive-service applications where conventional stainless steels may not provide the required performance.

Manual or automated operation

The EF40 can be supplied for manual operation or integrated into an automated valve package according to the installation’s control philosophy. Pneumatic or electric actuation can be considered for remote isolation and automated process duties.

Material traceability for project requirements

For projects requiring enhanced material traceability or additional quality documentation, mill certificates and PMI reports can be provided on request. This supports EPC and project environments where material verification forms part of the applicable documentation requirements.

A configurable valve platform for corrosive service

The EF40 forms part of the EFSVALVES Flow Control Exotic Materials range. Its combination of 3-piece construction, Super Duplex ASTM A890 Grade 5A, PREN >40, Class 800 / PN140 capability, higher-pressure Class 1500 configurations and multiple end-connection options provides a flexible solution for desalination, seawater, reverse osmosis and other corrosive process applications.
